About Tavern on George

Tavern on George is a full-service restaurant and bar located in the heart of downtown New Brunswick, NJ. We offer a modern American gastropub menu, craft cocktails, live music, private events, and a lively atmosphere for the local community, professionals, and visitors to the city.

We are looking for a friendly, organized, and outgoing Host/Hostess to join our front-of-house team. The Host is the first and last impression our guests have of Tavern on George and plays an important role in creating a welcoming experience while keeping the restaurant organized and service running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Warmly greet and welcome guests as they arrive.
• Manage reservations, walk-ins, and waitlists.
• Seat guests efficiently while maintaining proper table rotation between servers.
• Communicate accurate wait times and keep guests informed during busy periods.
• Maintain awareness of table availability and dining room flow.
• Coordinate with servers, bartenders, bussers, and management to ensure smooth service.
• Answer the restaurant phone and assist with reservations and general guest questions.
• Assist with large parties and special seating requests.
• Keep the host stand, entrance, menus, and surrounding areas clean and organized.
• Help ensure tables are cleared, reset, and ready for incoming guests when needed.
• Communicate guest requests or concerns to the appropriate team member or manager.
• Thank guests as they leave and help create a positive experience from arrival through departure.
• Assist the front-of-house team with additional tasks during high-volume periods as needed.

• Ability to work well as part of a team.
• Restaurant or hospitality experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience with restaurant reservation or POS systems is a plus.

Availability

This is a part-time position with shifts based on restaurant needs.

We are primarily looking for availability on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings , with additional shifts potentially available for private events, holidays, and other busy periods.

Flexible evening and weekend availability is preferred.

Compensation

Starting Pay: $15.92 per hour
